Who am I? A Doctor’s Identity

Practitioner Health is extremely excited to have spoken to Dr Amrita Sen Mukherjee on her life, work and research covering the identity of a doctor, and how it impacts on our wellbeing as humans beings.

Talking with Dr Andrew Tresidder, Amrita brings out “the human left behind” by the enforcing of a doctor’s identity. Amrita and Andrew discuss the development and nature of a doctor’s identity, challenges doctor’s face when becoming patients, the common stubbornness in admitting problems and how we approach our identity with our own health in mind. 

Dr Amrita Sen Mukherjee has completed General Practice training in the NHS, with over a decade of clinical experience as a doctor. As the current Co-Chair of the Disabled Doctors Network, Amrita is a longstanding advocate and peer supporter of those with long-standing chronic health problems and disability.

Amrita has published work on posttraumatic growth, and has been published in the British Medical Journal and the Medical Protection Society Magazine, as well as acting as an expert peer reviewer for the British Journal of General Practice.
